North Wales Development Officer – Application deadline 07/07/10 £27,475 pro rata - minimum 20hrs per week
Overall Purpose
To be the primary contact for One Voice Wales member councils in a region; provide advice and guidance to member councils; manage the relevant Area Committees taking place within the region; and act as all-Wales lead on specific themes.
Generic duties
- To develop a close and effective working relationship with all member councils in an assigned region of Wales, acting as the first point of contact with One Voice Wales for those councils.
- To arrange Area Committee meetings, translation facilities (as appropriate) invite speakers and prepare minutes (minimum of four meetings of each Area Committee per year), working closely with the Chairs of the Area Committees.
- To receive, log and action and respond to enquiries from individual member councils, taking direct ownership of each query (whether or not the response requires referral elsewhere).
- To arrange, facilitate, and potentially deliver training to member councils, working with external partners as required.
- To promote actively the benefits of membership of One Voice Wales, including giving presentations to non-member councils and assisting with all-Wales publicity and awareness-raising activities.
- To attend meetings of One Voice Wales’ National Executive Committee, AGM and Conference, providing reports and assisting with planning and management as required.
- To undertake any other duties requested by the Chief Executive, which are consistent with the overall purpose and duties of the post.
Specific duties
Lead role for communications and marketing activity for One Voice Wales, including production of the quarterly newsletter ‘The Voice’.
Knowledge, experience and competencies
- Sound knowledge of local government in Wales, preferably of the functions and operation of town and community councils;
- Experience of arranging and managing formal meetings and the preparation of minutes;
- High-quality inter-personal skills, able to develop effective trust-based relationships with member councils and other external partners;
- Welsh language skills essential;
- Highly-motivated, able to work on own initiative and as part of a team; and
- Good quality ICT skills, familiar with MS Office applications, email and internet.
