Practitioners' manual for public engagement

This Practitioners manual is a product that has been developed out of the extensive material produced through the Enhanced Consultation Strategy in Cardiff, Torfaen and Blaenau Gwent (funded by the Welsh Government’s ‘Making the Connections’ Fund).

Participation Cymru was asked to edit the material and produce a ‘How to’ guide for public engagement practitioners. This manual is a result of this work. A group of consultation officers within Local Authorities and other interested parties advised on the progress of this work in order to test out its usefulness and accessibility.

This guidance is aimed at officials in public service organisations in Wales who are in the front line of engagement with service users. It is a step by step handbook that will guide practitioners right from the beginning of the planning process through to the end of the evaluation of the activity. It is designed to accompany the National Principles for Public Engagement in Wales, which aim to offer a consistent approach and good standard for public engagement across Wales.

This manual has just been updated and revised following feedback from practitioners. This is a working document, so please have a look to see if this manual meets your needs. If you would like to add any useful links and your experiences, if there are any inaccuracies or if you have any other feedback please email participationcymru@wcva.org.uk.
