What’s in a name? Well, perhaps, more than you think at first glance. This theme was expanded by Dr Rhian Parry at a meeting of the One Voice Wales National Executive Committee in September 2009.

The Welsh Assembly Government is looking for 6 enthusiastic young people aged 14-18 from across Wales to become Climate Change Champions for 2010.
Wales could make its own laws to strengthen community and town councils
The Welsh Assembly Government has recently proposed that powers be given to Wales to allow the National Assembly to legislate to strengthen the community and town council sector. This is key to implementing outstanding recommendations from the 2003 Aberystwyth study into the Role, Functions and Future Potential of Community and Town Councils in Wales and will enable other improvements for the sector to be introduced. One Voice Wales is already booked to give evidence to the Assembly in October. Also, following a request by One Voice Wales, the Assembly has agreed to extend the deadline for comments to 30th September.

Help your community get ready for Switchover

Community Councils asked their views on Bioscience Research
As part of the drive of Aberystwyth University to become an international force for sustainable development, The Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences (IBERS), Aberystwyth University’s newest and largest institute, has been created through the merger, in April 2008, of the University’s Institutes of Biological and Rural Sciences with the BBSRC’s Institute of Grassland and Environmental Research (IGER).
Information Matters to Rural Communities
Shelter Cymru has launched the ‘Information matters to rural communities’ project in Narberth, which was supported by Angela Burns AM and many others, including Elfyn Williams, One Voice Wales’ Regional Development Officer, who has supported and encouraged the project. The Shelter Cymru team has been across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire presenting the project to community councillors.
